About me
My name is Nicky Bliss, a Norfolk, England country girl with a massive interest in computers and photography. After discovering how useful computers really were, after struggling for years with Dyslexia (thank goodness for spell checkers and the fact you can go back and edit things after you've written it), I decided to continue my studies in computing after high school and ended up going on to achieve a upper second Honors Degree in Computer Science.
For a long while I had no idea what area of computing I wanted to go into for a career. I started out as a Systems Administrator at a small 3D Avatar company called Televirtual. During this time the duties my job included grew exponentially. I ended up doing the system administration (for already out of date and dying hardware), website design/maintainance, video editor, TTS voice builder. I found that over the year I worked at Televirtual I was more and more drawn to the website design side of the job and was not at all enjoying the job as a whole any more.
I now work for Aviva as a part of a small development team that looking after websites for Norwich Union, RAC and BSM. I find my job much more satisfying and really like the team I work in. Although at times it can feel like we are just a machine churning out work that has been requested as fast as humanly possible, I still find getting the work done and out of the way very satisfying but most of all I love the fact the job in general is challenging and rewarding.
In my spare time I'm often found doing yet more computery stuff from fixing friends computers to yet more web development/design, again often for friend. When the British weather isn't deciding to rain on us I love going out to different places with my camera and taking lots of photos (have a look around the photography section for a selection on my favourite photos from the last few years).
